Ireland's hopes of reaching the 2024 World Cup are hanging by a thread after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to the United States in their penultimate game of Group A.
A goal from Alana Cook just before half-time proved to be the difference between the two sides in a match that was played in difficult conditions at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.
The result leaves Ireland needing to beat Canada in their final game and hope that other results go their way if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
The United States, meanwhile, moved into second place in the group with the win and are now in pole position to join leaders Australia in the semi-finals.
